
As our students settle into a new school year, we ask everyone in our community to take a few extra moments to help keep them safe as they travel to and from school.
Whether you’re driving through a neighborhood, approaching a school bus stop, or traveling near a school campus, please stay alert. Slow down, eliminate distractions, and watch carefully for students who may be walking, riding bicycles, or crossing the street.
For drivers:
• Stop for school buses when the stop arm is extended and the red lights are flashing.
• Obey posted school zone speed limits.
• Never pass a stopped school bus unless permitted by law.
• Stay alert for students at bus stops, crosswalks, and near roadways, especially during the busy morning and afternoon hours.
For parents and students:
• Arrive at bus stops a few minutes early and wait a safe distance from the roadway.
• Cross the street only when instructed by the bus driver, and always look left, right, and left again before crossing.
• Use designated crosswalks whenever possible and never cross behind a school bus.
• Stay aware of your surroundings by keeping phones and headphones put away while walking.
The start and end of the school day are some of the busiest times on our roads. A little extra patience and attention can help ensure every student arrives safely at school and returns home safely each day.

🩷 PINK Badge: Indicates you are an approved volunteer who has signed up to support your student's class OR a Field Day station.
💛 YELLOW Badge: Indicates you are an approved FY26 volunteer and may support your student and other students as needed.
🤍 WHITE Badge: Indicates that you are a visitor and may support only your child.
Please remember:
- Bring a valid photo ID.
- All adults must be listed in Infinite Campus and connected to their student.
- Only adults with a PINK badge will be permitted inside our school building.

H&M Snow Biz will be with us during our Field Days on Tuesday (grades PK–2) and Wednesday (grades 3–5). If your child would like to purchase a snow cone, please send $4.00 so they can enjoy a cool treat during the day! 🍧
If you plan to attend on Friday, please present your blue bracelet at the cafeteria door. If you plan to eat lunch, please present your meal ticket.
If you would prefer a refund, please return your meal ticket to the front office by Friday, May 21st, at 12:00 PM.
As we prepare for our field days next week, we are seeking parent volunteers to help Coach Herron in each area where planned activities will be held.
Our volunteers will need to:
- Be an existing approved volunteer
- Be able to commit to at least one full day
- Agree to be stationary at their assigned activity and location throughout the day.
Our SMES Field Days will take place on:
• Tuesday, May 19th for PK–2
• Wednesday, May 20th, for grades 3–5
Please note that completing the form does not guarantee a volunteer position. Volunteers will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, and SMES will contact you if you are chosen.
