Dear Parents and Families,

We are inviting you to participate in the Georgia School Climate Survey. Your feedback is extremely important to us and plays a vital role in helping us understand how our families feel about our school’s learning environment, safety, communication, and overall climate.

The survey is part of the Georgia Department of Education initiative to gather input from students, staff, and families across the state. Your responses are confidential and will be used to help us celebrate our strengths and identify areas where we can continue to grow and improve.

We truly value your partnership and want every family’s voice to be heard. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete, but the impact of your feedback makes a lasting difference for our students.

Please take a moment to complete the survey using the link below:

Good evening, SMES families. We are excited to return to our school building soon!

Review and Practice Packets are available at the CCGA for pick-up from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM this coming Monday-Wednesday. These packets are student work that can provide practice if your child has not attended CCGA during our time off campus.

Timeline for Returning:

- Thursday- Friday: Students will participate in distance (remote) learning from home. Students will receive assignments prior to leaving school on Wednesday (these packets are separate from the ones above). During these two days, teachers and staff will be on-site preparing classrooms and instructional spaces for students’ return.

- Students will return to in-person instruction at St. Marys Elementary.

Welcome back, students to SMES on Monday, February 9, and attendance is required at that time.

As always, please feel free to email or call me with any questions.

Good evening SMES Families,

I apologize for any confusion or frustration that was caused by today’s incident. To my knowledge, two workers (contractors working across from the high school) argued at Dollar General. It was reported to the police that one was carrying a weapon on his hip. Due to increased law enforcement presence on Wildcat Drive, CHS, CMS, and the Coastal College of Georgia were placed on lockdown to limit movement in the area. We did not have internet access for most of the day due to an AWS issue. The general message was sent from my phone to inform parents that there was no on-campus school threat. Law enforcement provided limited information during the incident, so specifics were not shared with parents.

Please contact Chief Knight for any additional details; she can clarify or provide more information if I have misspoken. Mrs. Cobb may also be contacted, who can provide details and clarity about the specific steps that were taken on the CCGA campus for students and staff.

I sincerely apologize for the limited information provided, but assure you our SMES students were never in danger at the college.

Respectfully,

Tracolya Green, Ed.D.
Superintendent
